Privacy Policy

Version 1.1.0 · Effective 2026-08-12 · Operated by Junnosuke Kono

Plain-language notice. This policy was drafted with AI assistance for a small independent project. It describes honestly how the app actually works, but it is not professionally reviewed legal advice and should be checked by a qualified lawyer before commercial operation.

What data we collect

  • Account data — email address, username, display name, optional avatar and bio.
  • Progress data — XP, level, mission check-ins, lesson activity, pronunciation attempts and scores.
  • Content you create — Tokyo Moments posts, photos, captions, comments, place recommendations, private journal notes.
  • Location data — a single approximate reading at the moment of a GPS check-in, used to confirm arrival. We store the check-in result and approximate distance, not a continuous location history.
  • Voice data — short audio recorded only while you practise pronunciation or speak to the AI partner, sent for transcription and scoring, and not retained as audio afterwards.
  • Consent records — which document versions you agreed to, when, and your marketing choice.
  • Safety records — reports you file, moderation outcomes, and blocks you create.

How we use your data

To operate your account, generate personalised plans and missions, run lessons and pronunciation feedback, display community content, verify mission check-ins, enforce the Community Guidelines, keep the service secure, and — only if you opted in — send occasional travel news.

Device permissions

We never request device permissions when you create an account. Each is asked for only the first time you use the feature that needs it, with an explanation, and declining never blocks account creation.

  • Location — mission GPS check-in only.
  • Microphone — pronunciation practice and AI roleplay only.
  • Camera / Photos — attaching a photo to a Moment or avatar.
  • Notifications — optional mission and trip reminders.

You can revoke any permission at any time in your browser or device settings.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of processors purely to run the service:

  • Cloud hosting, database, authentication, and storage — stores your account, content, and files.
  • AI providers — receive the text, images, or short audio needed to generate plans, moderate content, transcribe speech, and produce pronunciation audio.

We may also disclose data where legally required, or to protect users from serious harm.

Data retention

Account, content, and progress data is kept while your account exists. Consent and moderation records are kept longer where needed as legal or safety evidence. When you delete your account, your profile, posts, comments, likes, recommendations, uploaded photos, progress, and login are removed promptly; residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period before expiring.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

In the app: Profile → Privacy & Data lets you download a copy of your data, change your marketing preference, and permanently delete your account. For anything else, email konojunnosuke@gmail.com.

Data security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored with row-level access rules so that private data is readable only by you. Private photos are served through short-lived signed links. Uploads are validated and image metadata is stripped before storage. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Children's privacy

Tokyo Mission Guide is not intended for young children. An age requirement is shown at signup and set by the operator for the countries the service operates in; where local law requires parental consent below a certain age, an account must not be created without it. If we learn that an account belongs to someone below the applicable age, we will delete it. Contact us if you believe a child has created an account.

International transfers

Our hosting and AI providers may process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses offered by those providers.
